Writing is Fun!

Whoever said, “Writing is fun?” Well, whoever said it probably didn’t attend graduate school or doctoral studies. Because in college and grad school – WRITING WAS NOT MUCH FUN!

Today, however, writing is fun once again and I have the privilege of writing for children – which makes writing even MORE FUN!

In writing for children, my mind is alive and busy with circus-like activity. Throughout the day (and night) – my mind envisions incredible new story lines and memorable and exciting new characters.

But as much fun as writing is fun for me – it’s not always as much fun for children. Not all children enjoy writing. Writing doesn’t come easy for some children.

But perhaps it’s because we’ve never taught them how to have fun – just writing. As parents, how do you make writing fun for your children? How do you inspire their daily creativity? How do you motivate your child to fall in love with writing or reading or math?

I recently read a good article: Making Writing Fun for Kids” (犀利士
rget=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>www.KidsGoals.com). Check out the site – it’s a good one for parents.

The author stated: “If we make writing fun – children will want to do it.” One of the most important things that you can do to help your child learn to love writing is to read to him or with her. Reading will teach your child about how we communicate – not only with what we say, but also through the written word. Your child will learn to create written language by reading it.

Some ways to encourage your child to write:

  • A diary is a good way to inspire your child to write on a daily basis.
  • Play Scrabble and other word games to stimulate conversation.
  • Watch appropriate movies and talk about the movie – the characters and plot.
  • Make sure your child has a good place to write such as a desk or table with a smooth surface and good lighting.
  • NEVER force your child to write; instead, encourage him to write.

WRITING CAN BE FUN!
